SPRINGFIELD, garner. — An apparent squall struck the downtown of one of Massachusetts' largest cities Wednesday afternoon, scattering debris, toppling trees, and frightening workers further residents. No injuries were immediately reported.

Thomas Walsh, a spokesman for Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno, told The Associated Press he was looking out his habitat entry window around 4:30 p.m. when he saw the funnel.
